History of the Group of Valais Opticians

The Group of Valais Opticians (GVO) was born in 2002 from the merger of the 2 groups existing at the time, namely the association valaisanne des opticiens (AVO) and the union valaisanne des opticiens diplômés (UVOD).

Some members of these two associations were convinced that unity is strength, and managed to motivate all the then members to join together in one single group.

Consequently, on Thursday, 23 May 2002, at a constituent general meeting, with both groups being present, the establishment of the GVO was unanimously decided. At the time, we were 23 founder members, from a total of around 40 businesses.

The new committee embarked on its work. For the last seven years, we have endeavoured to recruit new members.

In 2005, we revised the health law concerning our profession, and we work in close cooperation with the public health authorities.

There is now a monitoring committee for the shops, which checks that each optician’s business complies with the legal requirements regarding the training and qualifications of its employees, as well as the instruments and apparatus used by each practitioner. You can find a contribution from one of the officials on this committee on our Website.

We also organise, together with the Group of Vaud Opticians, various seminars as part of our commitment to continuous further training.

In 2009, our Internet site was launched in French and Germany, with English to follow…
